Web Presenters

Posted by Richard Lane on 12 March 2012

We’ve been learning all about web presenters recently. You’ve seen them: presentable, normally female, and springing from a website to give you a personal introduction.

MyHouseAdvert.co.uk

It started with MyHouseAdvert – one of a growing number of online estate agents. They differ from conventional estate agents by concentrating almost entirely on the online property portals. They can, consequently, offer lower rates or commission-free sales. They needed a site that can get this across to potential clients, and they devised an online price comparison calculator which we built for them.

An additional feature is the video web presenter created by www.tvwebpresenters.co.uk. This brings a dynamic aspect to the website that integrates well with the overall design – and as we all know, it’s  nice to see a friendly face. tvwebpresenters work with their own presenters, reading from your script, and produce the video in a ready-to-go format that can be very simply dropped into your website.

A few weeks later we had another site wanting a presenter- this time Rotherham estate agents Barton Real Estates. They had commissioned a film presentation for the homepage and wanted us to drop it in. As anyone who’s played around with codecs, video overlay transparencies, and flash wrapping knows, this can be a pretty complicated area.

The brief was that our presenter should appear the first time you visit the site, do her bit and then disappear. Future visits come with the offer of a repeat performance but should be dismissable. We built this interface ourselves using the open-source media player jwplayer – you can judge for yourself how well it works over on the Barton Real Estates site.
