Our History

Castlegate IT began life as Semlyen IT Consultants in 2005 when Jim Semlyen began operating as a freelance web developer and consultant from a small office at 20 Castlegate. As Jim’s workload increased Jamie Woolgar came on board, followed soon afterwards by Richard Lane.

Andy Reading joined the team in 2008 when the company was outgrowing its first office and moved to a larger room in the same building. Continued growth saw us move to the largest office in the building: a basement office which over several years which we gradually filled to bursting with new recruits as we began taking on more custom development and web application work.

In December 2011 we changed name and became Castlegate IT Limited with the addition of front end developer John Hughes and administrator and developer Gemma Cowton.

And finally in April 2015, with new recruits Rob Jackson, Jono Moss, Rob Griffin and Connor McLeod we reached the point where we could no longer fit in our basement office. We emerged blinking from our Castlegate basement to relocate to our current spacious first-floor office on Walmgate. Louisa Machado joined us as an administrator, adding some much-needed management support, and we also took on our AdWords and PPC expert Julia Haigh.
